It can be a challenge to bring your family members to the Netherlands. The specific requirements depend on your nationality and the nationality of your family members.
In general, spouses, registered partners and children under the age of 18 may be eligible for family reunification. The same applies to unmarried partners and partners of the same gender. Other family members, such as children aged 18 and over or your parents, can also obtain a permit to stay with family members under very strict conditions.
The Dutch authorities maintain certain income requirements in order to guarantee that you can support your family members. However, thanks to EU legislation it is possible to deviate from this in an individual case. Another requirement is that your family member must pass the civic integration examination. There are exceptions to this as well.
Once the residence permit has been issued, it will have the same period of validity as your residence permit. If you are a Dutch citizen, the permit will be valid for five years. The permit can be extended.
