The term ‘personal data’ is very broad. Any information by means of which a specific person can be identified without too much effort is personal data. So not only name and address details, telephone numbers, IP addresses, but also, for example, audio and video material.
In addition to ‘ordinary’ personal data, there is are also ‘special’ categories of personal data, such as data on ethnicity, political origin, religion, trade union membership, health, etc. These special categories of personal data are subject to stricter rules.
